[An automated sounding computer voice says:] This is the in box of Himawari Kunogi, Please leave a message!

[After a moment there is a new notice, this time the girl speaks in a cheerful voice]
Hello! This is Himawari. If you have a question about the city or wish to have some assistance looking up jobs or places for rent, please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

[She was rubbing at her face as she waited, leaning her head back on the couch, staring at nothing. She felt tired still (and sounded tired as well)] Ah, hello. This is Himawari. I just got your voicemail.

[He was similarly resting, having been curled up on his futon with a book that he was pretending to read.]

Miss Himawari. [The slight warmth of his tone was the verbal equivalent of a smile.] Are you well, then?

[There was a soft sigh, as if telling the truth wasn't exactly what she wanted to do but she wasn't about to lie]

I'm feeling a little under the weather but I am doing better then I was last night. It's... just a cold I think. [It was slightly weird for her to have anyone call her let alone ask how she was. Especially when she had just seen him the day before at the workshop. She asked curiously:] Is everything alright with you?

[Her truths were at least safe with him; something she may not realize so soon into knowing each other. Maybe she would, in time.]

Mmm. [He listened softly, one hand idly picking at a loose thread in the blanket.] Now, yes. Yesterday... I was violently ill.

[A pause.] I don't get ill, Miss Himawari.

[She sat up more. A bird twittering in protest to her movement, near the NV before taking off to sit on the dogs head near by.]

Violently? What happened? [concern in abundance.]

[The small noise of a bird was noted, but almost immediately dismissed; it was not a threatening sound. He shook his head as if to soothe her concern; the action would not, of course, transmit over the call.] I can trust in your confidence?

[The question surprised her at first, but she nodded, then... realizing that can't be seen. She sounded more concerned.] Ah, yes. Of course. [he hadn't known her long but she was a honest type.]

Mmm. [He'd suspected as much, really; she seemed the type to hold her own secrets close.] I fell ill shortly after leaving yesterday's workshop. The worst of the symptoms included dizziness, nausea, hallucinations... it was not pleasant.

[call]

From: [identity profile] controllingluck.livejournal.com
[There was a small drawn in breath as she bit her thumb nail, hearing all this. Oooh, that... wasn't good.] That... ah... [how to say 'me too' with out saying 'me too'?] Hallucinations as well? that's deferentially not normal to a simple illness. But you're alright now?

[Fingers tapped idly against the blanket, having pulled away the thread that had previously occupied them. He had the feeling they were dancing around each other with their words, but it seemed to work for them.] I am, though I should not have gotten ill in the first place.

[He sighed, after a moment.] I want to liken it to a poison, though I do not believe that accurate either.

[At least he didn't get annoyed for her when this dance began, like so many others had. Still, for her it was mostly because she didn't want to cause unneeded concern for her, but in this case it seemed perhaps it was leading to something more then just a little cold and... what ever that was]

Do you not get ill where you are from? I don't get sick too often myself, but this had me run down, yes! Much like... like food poisoning perhaps? Only... well, not.

[There was little enough reason for him to be annoyed with her; he had eliminated her as a source for the illness. And he had been unsure that anyone would check on her; he would have called earlier but the dizziness had only recently subsided.]

I'm largely incapable of illness. My body has been... modified. [There was a small silence on his end; he debated telling her about SOLDIERs and Mako, but ultimately decided against it. It wasn't really necessary knowledge, beyond what he had already revealed.]

It should not have been so easy to poison me either.

That's... distressing. [she said at a soft mummer, considering it more. Someone who was modified not to get sick... getting that sick is really worrisome. She was filing that away for later as well. The more she spoke to this mane the more interesting he became to her.]

I wonder if the others--[She paused to cough, pulling the phone away form her face to do so. Coming back a moment later she cleared her throat] I wonder if any of the others from the workshop were sick. I haven't been checking the network at all.

It was, very. [It was catalyst enough for him to trust Genesis near unconditionally, something he hadn't done since before the degradation. The thought unsettled him.] I have no knowledge of the others. You will forgive the forwardness, I hope, but my main concern was you.

[There was a pause in surprise to that. She just blinked but then smiled softly before speaking again.] I see. I was... rather sick last night. I'm still not feeling... great, but I am feeling better. Thank you for checking in on me.

[There was only the slightest of pauses now before she added] Perhaps you just ran into a really bad bit of luck... [her fault, perhaps. She was now trying to think if she had properly thought to wish off any bad luck from the gathering or not. oh dear]

We attempted a curative from our home, but it was to little success. [He sighed; the illness had been violent, and it was not an experience that he wanted to repeat -- or to wish on others.] Still, would you like me to bring you anything?

[He made a small, thoughtful noise as he considered.] I suppose it is possible. I believe it to be more routed in the physical, if only for the presence of those strange growths on the field yesterday.

You have things from home to help cure yourself? [she was curious, especially about 'home' now. Home curatives was miso soup and a light rice with rest and lots of tea. She did the tea part at least. Still when he asked if she needed anything she almost sounded as if she flailed, the bird twittering angry as she sat up more... What? Oh no I--[Only to go into a coughing fit. A sniff before continuing a moment later]

No, no sense in you picking up anything I might still have anyhow. Now that you know you can. [with another clearing of her throat she frowned] The strange growth? You mean those mushrooms? They weren't there last week, that's for sure.

Mmm. Materia, we call it. To skip the intricacies, you might liken it to magic. [He did have to suppress a chuckle at the sound of her flailing though. Was the girl honestly unused to such attention? But the coughing distracts him from what would have been a soft tease; it melted into concern instead.] Miss Himawari, please stop being selfless for just a moment. If there is something I can do to help you, then it would be my honor to do it.

Alternately, don't make me sic my roommate on you. [He pulled out the pamphlet from the training session, in which he'd made some notes. To them he added the word 'mushroom'.] Is that what they were? I haven't seen quite the like, though I didn't get close enough to them to really examine them.

[Materia did sound a bit like Magic, even in word form. She filed that away as well for another curious poking for information on the man later. And yes, she was a bit unused to such attention. By now most people she had talked to have forgotten her or at least gone on their way. She patted her chest lightly to sooth the cough] I-It's not... not being selfless. I... I just don't think there is much you could do to help.

[Huh... that fellow talking about having an on site medic. That... really would have been handy today]

I ah... your roommate? [She sounded confused at this, though she supposed it was a tease.] Oh ah, I think so. They look like mushrooms to me. Small fungus that grow in strange places. I've never seen them in the field before though.

I could provide you company, if nothing else -- though I will understand if you prefer the NetVice to a visit. My system seems to have fought it off, though it was not pleasant to do so.

[There is never a medic when you need one.]

Yes, Genesis. He... stayed by my side through the illness. [It was probably clear from Sephiroth's voice that he was still coming to terms with what the gesture meant.] I'd love another look, but I don't know that I want to risk exposure. Assuming that they did cause the illness, which is at this point still a big assumption.

And waste your time sitting around in a run down little apartment with a sick girl and her pets? Isn't there a world you could be saving or something? [This was said more in tease also but she was considering it. He at least held good intelligent conversation] But if you would like... as long as you don't get sick again, that is.

[Right? And then you have a ton of them when no one needs one]

That is good. That he stayed and tried to help you. He seems like a good friend to you. [After all, only friends or family stick around the ill, right?] There are a lot of things that could have caused an illness here. Mushrooms back home are only harmful if eaten, and that's only a few types.

My world here has precious few inhabitants, and you are one of them. [It was a subtle tease back in her direction; he liked that they could volley words back and forth.] If you would like. You are still ill, and I have recovered.

[Exactly! Damn medics. It's a conspiracy, clearly.]

He is, and I am but poor to him. It is... hard to figure out. [There was a soft sigh; clearly, someone didn't want to think about it.] It still goes on the list as a possibility. I just don't like how there's no concrete proof of anything.

[Thankfully this was a voice call or else she would be even more embarrassed that his words made her blush. Stop making her feel important, damn it!] Himawari; World invader. [She said it with a soft chuckle but ended with a mild cough. She covered her mouth away from the NV. A pause and then with a bit more of a sigh] As long as I don't get you sick again.

[Clearly. They do it to mock those who cant heal themselves]

Is he the type to put up with someone if they were truly being poor to him? [she asked it more curiously then anything else. To her, she had not see Sephiroth be anything but calm and cool headed kind. As he said though, we all have our dark moods.]

[As for the mushrooms, she frowned]
Nothing in this port comes with concrete proof. Not even the existence of the newcomers out of no where. It all gets blamed on the Core. Maybe this will be too.

[Ah, but his entire goal with the call -- now that he had made sure she was (relatively) all right, was to make her feel important.] It's a good title, isn't it? [She wouldn't see the concern enter his expression at her cough, but perhaps it was just as well.] I doubt that it is possible to pass it in such a way; I was in close contact with my roommate, and he did not fall ill.

[I know, right? Bastards.]

'Hard to figure out' is one of the only descriptions I can give him in all accuracy. Sometimes he is as the man I remember, and sometimes he echoes the friend I thought lost. It is hard to reconcile the two.

[He did make an amused sound at her words though -- glad to take his mind off of Genesis.] Very few things in life come with concrete proof. But there are theories built on thoughts, and theories built on evidence. It is unfortunate we do not have more of the latter, in this instance.

[Yeah but she doesn't like feeling important. That gets people in trouble.] I couldn't think of a better title myself. [she did chuckle softly, my how she felt the title was fitting however.] If your sure you'll be alright.

[She coughed again, settling deeper down in her couch] Hmm... [she kept this information in mind, really. More to her own puzzle to solve. She wanted to meet this Genesis now, to put her own thoughts on him. Anyone who was looking after Sephiroth when he was sick can't be too bad, hmm?]

I'm sure there will be some evidence here soon enough. Or at least someone who thinks they have some. Either that or it's just someone's powers going out on them. That happens a lot... though who's powers would make people sick, I don't know. [she rubbed her face, thinking that was lame to say or think. clearly she wasn't thinking right today]
