Previous game history:
I’m going to try to keep this brief but I have a much longer rundown on her journal for more information as needed. She is coming from Siren’s Port (
sirenspull/
sirenspull) and a brief history from Salkia Island (
salkia_island). Because she has an extensive background from years of being in two games, I tend to keep her ‘connections’ on the vague side. That is to say that if she remembers someone from her past, she tends not to mention it and keeps it to herself. She’s learned about the Multi-verse and different versions of people and the importance of not telling someone that she knows them. Which thankfully makes it easy to step around the who’s who that she would know. If a connection to a past character is made, I always double check to make sure that person is okay with her knowing/talking about it or not. Out of respect of the other player I will always roll with how they feel about it.
That said, I’ve tried to leave names out of her past game history, though this can be given if asked. I have it elsewhere.
Himawari was pulled from her canon to a fictional island where strange events, wishes and creatures could come into effect one day and out the next. Like a bad fanfiction. It was here that she started to learn how to function around strangers and deal with her curse and bad luck. Here she learned to trust people more with her secret as they were willing to deal with her bad luck instead of let her hide herself away.
She was gifted a katana and taught how to use it in order to protect herself. She’s not the best with it, but she carried it with pride and has used it on several occasions. She was on the island for some time, growing as a young adult. Her smile was still shaded however and she was still protective of people who tried to get close, allowing them to be close and friendly, but as she did in canon, she tried not to allow them to get TOO close. It was here that she felt extreme loss as soon all the people she did care for slowly disappeared. She had a soft crush on two people here but tried her best to hide that.
On day she discovered herself waking up in a baseball diamond with a couple of dozen other people. A Newcomer to Siren’s Port. Her bag, sword and bird, Tanpopo came with her and here she discovered that she and everyone who lived in this place had a ‘power’. It took her a while to discover her own, but after a bit she learned that she could control her own luck. Hers and the luck of others around her. Because of this power it made it easier for her to grow and develop around others.
She took on jobs that allowed her to work with other people. In the Newcomer Apartments she took on the job of Greeter, going out to greet people who showed up in the baseball diamond and help them get settled into their new place. It was something she was passionate about, to help others and not cause them harm. It was also the place that she learned much more about her skills with defense and her sword. She had several people teach and train her, and though she was not the best fighter, her control over luck made it easier.
Fighting was needed after all. At night the Darkness brought on monsters and creatures that tried to kill anything it could. As a Greeter she took it upon herself to go out into the night and try to help defend those who showed up at the worst times. Though she has never hurt a human with her fighting, she has taken care of a few creatures in her time.
She will be coming from April 20th, 2013, the day the Newcomer Network shut down for good. The core of the island was resolved, a portal opened up and people we re allowed to go home, fight or move on through that world. She stayed back to help protect the portal before going through, which might be how she ended up here. She can’t be sure.
Personality:
Himawari appears to be a very friendly, caring and lovely kind of person who can sometimes comes off as a bit standoffish or even snobbish, depending on the person looking at her. The boy who had a crush on her thought she was the most wonderful girl in the world who cared about everyone and could do no wrong. The girls at her school thought she was friendly enough but because she constantly turned down their invitations to do things, made them feel like she was a snob. She smiles through a mask, hiding her true feelings most of the time. Under it all she is a strongly guarded person, only becoming standoffish in order to protect others from her curse.
She wouldn’t want to hurt a fly let alone someone she cared for, but because of her curse she refuses to allow herself too close to people. Himawari is protective like that. In canon her closest ‘friends’ slowly become Watanuki and Doumeki, one of which has a crush on her and the other isn’t affected by her curse. Watanuki doesn’t care if he gets hurt, and Doumeki won't get hurt, making it somewhat easier for her to try and be more like herself. Even then she would rather smile through a mask than let them know she’s crying or hurting. Himawari cares deeply about people and just wants them to be happy.
While in school she was a very good student, always coming home with good grades, a pleasant person to teachers and other students when she could be. She did student council and watched the Archery and Kendo teams practice. For the most part she acted like a normal girl who was just very careful about who she interacted with. This left her with a layer of sadness and depression that she hid, and hid well. Even when her bad luck almost killed Watanuki, she smiled through her tears, trying to keep up the act when Watanuki finally realized what was going on.
So upset that she had caused her friend such pain she made a deal with the shop witch to take away Watanuki’s scars from him and keep them herself. While Doumeki took the blood loss, she gained visible scars all up and down her back and neck, a sacrifice she was willing to take for her friend. If she could have done or taken more, she would have, but she was told it was equal price and she could take no more than that. This shows that Himawari is willing to take on pains and suffering from others to help make them happier or better.
Deep down she wants friends and personal connections but she doesn’t want to hurt anyone, so she has sacrificed her own happiness to protect others. Thankfully her friends forced themselves into her life and have dealt with the pains that come with being her friend. It hurts but she’s so happy to have people who care for her and for her to care about in return.
In short she is a protective and caring, friendly young woman who has a lot of pain and sadness hidden behind her metaphorical mask. She’s willing to give more than take and loves people and animals unconditionally.
Previous Game Development:
There have been a lot of changes in the past four years. She’s now around 21 years of age, grown into more of a calm adult than a ditsy high school student. She’s grown in courage and will, fighting more and more for things she needed to fight for, for friends she needed to help, and for herself. She doesn’t stand in the background as often now, jumping in to help now that she can control her luck and keep others safe from it. Fighting both mental and physical demons she’s grown from trying to hide and just pretend to be normal to opening up to people who she lets close.
Over the years she has experienced so much more loss than ever before, both from her own bad luck to events in both locations and her travels. For a while she had grown slightly bitter about losing people, which took a turn to closing herself off in a different way. Once in awhile she will shut down and keep to herself when people start disappearing or dying again. Still the feeling of being lonely almost always trumps the fear of loss and pushes her to step out and keep in contact with others or make new friends.
With age and responsibility she has grown more into a take charge kind of girl, helping lead or at least direct others in a way that is helpful and meaningful. She even takes a bit more pride in this. For at least two and a half years she worked as a Greeter in port, a year or so of that as the head greeter, helping not only welcome new people to the city but also direct, manage, train and lead a group of people to do the same thing.
Over the years events and people have actually pushed her to show an explosive temper, though it is not a short fuse. It takes some doing. Friends or masses of people being hurt or tortured, people dying or her friends just being bullied so often can push her further over the edge, making her actually wish to use her abilities for bad reasons. It only happened a few times, but she’s more willing to put her foot down or use her abilities to hurt others in extreme cases. Generally that bad luck comes back on her, but it’s always been for something she felt it was worth.
Himawari is still all about friends and people, caring and protecting those she can or helping others. She’s more proactive now that she knows she can control her luck and the outcome of what happens to those around her. She’s still trusting of most people and fully believes in second chances as well as redemption, though there have been a few people who pushed those beliefs too far.
Skills/Abilities:
Canon: Well educated and smart, though she plays off being a bit ditsy. She speaks Japanese, English and a bit of French. She is considered ‘cursed’ though it’s more like a natural embodiment of bad luck than anything else. Just by being around someone, touching them, interacting too closely with them, or even touching something of theirs, bad things tend to happen. When she was younger she had cursed people to bad luck simply by picking up a ball from their yard or touching a person's shoulder.
They say it’s not really really a ‘curse’ as it can’t be blessed or removed from her, but more that it’s just ‘part’ of her. Only her mother, father and Doumeki seem to be immune to her bad luck. Because of this she tries very hard to distance herself from others so not to bring them pain and trouble.
The ‘Bad Luck’ can range from simple things like stubbing one's toe, losing keys, forgetting where they parked, to drastic things like slipping and falling and breaking their leg or arm or neck, to causing a fire by mistake to dying.
She has seen ghosts! Which seems to be something that rare few can do in canon. Though she doesn’t see them the same as Watanuki or Doumeki have, she has seen a few herself. She does not have the same gifts as they do when it comes to the supernatural and spirit world.
Game Updates:
With in two worlds and travel she has learned several ways to defend herself and protect others.
Archery: Her canon mate, Doumeki taught her to use a bow and arrow, finding her to be a natural when doing a quick draw. It was thought that her bad luck one others might have brought her a natural talent with Archery. Her bow and quiver was destroyed in the apartment crash of Siren’s Port (Jan 2012) however, so she is a bit rusty at the moment.
Fair with a sword: Trained to use a katana sword by three different people, she has about four years of experience now, making her not amazing with it but well enough and strong enough to use it in defense if needed. She tends to keep it at her hip. If the city or location she is in is not dangerous she will more than likely keep it at home, as she understands it tends to be a honor to carry a sword and those who do should not fear using it. Not that she fears using it, but she isn’t one to pick fights.
She picked up writing as a hobby and a job. She was almost published in Siren’s Port with a trashy romance novel under the pen name of Z. S. Graham (named after three very influential and important people). Her book would have been a simple trashy romance novel and was in the process of being picked up when the end of the world happened. She writes for fun and enjoys stories.
Bad Luck Things:
While on Salkia Island she learned that her bad luck did not affect Vampires and they, like her parents and Doumeki, were able to be around her with no problems. Her blood however, if taken from her either by drinking or injected into a vampire's blood stream would give them twice as bad luck until it worked it’s way out of the system.
In Siren’s Port her dormant ability was to control luck. Over time she learned that she could give or take luck, good or bad. It works a bit like Karma though. If she gives a person bad luck she will receive her own bad luck. If she gives a person good luck she will receive good luck herself. Alternatively however, if she takes away a person's own bad luck she takes it onto herself. This means that though her powers are helpful and interesting to others as well as herself, but also trouble.
With that said her canon ‘curse’ of bad luck is still there, which means there is a chance that if she isn’t paying attention or focusing on it, she could accidentally give someone a case of bad luck, meaning that she has to still be careful who she touches or interacts with, but that if she does curse someone she can also lift it from them.
Her Luck Abilities and Curse are played out with permission or conversations with other players first, and are generally used if other players WANT it. I will always be willing to open up and allow her to curse someone on accident, and alternatively, if someone does touch her, I can easily assume that she’s changed the bad luck they would have gotten… back to her.

Third Person Sample:
As day started to slowly fade into night, Himawari and a few others stood by the old apartments, near the way to the portal, ready to defend it from the Darkness that would slowly try once again to go through as well. The portal would be closing soon, and those who stuck around to help defend it were either going to be killed by it because they didn’t escape, or try and leap through it in the last moments. That was her plan at least.
For now, she was standing guard, willing the portal to close before the night fell once more. With her NetVice in hand she frowned, speaking to someone near by. “The network is down. This could be it.” She said it with a feeling of dread in her chest. The end was coming nearer. Friends fled, either to the new world, slowly being infected with the Darkness, or through the portal, trying to get home.
Home, it had been a while for her too. She didn’t know what to expect if she did step through the portal. Would she remember all these years? Remember all the scars and troubles, the love and heartache? Would he luck change it all and put her in the wrong place or time? She would find out soon, but first she had to help stand tall and keep the portal safe.
The sirens started to go off, and the world started to met around them once again, like it had for years now. The smell of rot and decay trickled down the rubble of the apartments and over the destroyed fencing to the baseball diamond. Bushes and trees twisted and reshaped, darker and gnarled, and creatures started to form, slowly at first, like reforming from mist and muck.
“All right everyone. Let’s do this. It’s going to be a long night.” She said, shoving her bag around to her back and pulling her blade out before her. She let out a breath and calmed herself. Just another night. One more night. A rope faced dog lunged at one of her companions, the sound of it’s growls drowning the others startled cry before the fight began.
And then it happened. A portal around her, twisting and folding around her to open, like a tear in the world, bright and warm and inviting. It startled her as she realized her feet were no longer on infield dirt but on old hard wood flooring.
For a moment she could see the dark world she was leaving behind, the darkness starting to head right for it. “No! You have to close this! It’s coming!” She gasped, stumbling backwards only to see the tear disappear a moment before the mutt had made it to it.
If the dog had missed this portal, did it just jump right into the Core Portal? Her hands hook, katana sword dropping as she heard someone stammering about a mis spoken spell. “No. No… what have you done?” She whispered, hands shaking as they came to her face, cupping over her mouth and nose. Eyes wide she stared at the space she had stepped through, looking off into a strange room in a home somewhere else.
It took a while to get her ‘mask’ on, an appearance of a calm young woman who was confused and lost. Mostly because she was confused to what happened, and lost in thought to what might have happened back there at the Core. Did she fail? Did it get through? What of the others? Why wasn’t this home?
The young man who summoned her here apologized over and over, explaining where she was. Where to go. What was going on, but all she could think about was what happened back there at the port.
Viduale. Far into the future, it sounds. Or at least a Earth’s future. The young man rambled and spoke, walking her to a shelter for her to get further help, but he disappeared, begging her not to mention who brought her through. She simply put on a smile, faint as it was, and tried to gather herself once more. This wasn’t her first trip, and though she felt sick about what she was leaving behind, she hoped that perhaps she could go back and fix it, or at least go home.
